We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support the finance function across multiple companies within our group.
The successful candidate will have strong experience in bookkeeping, Sage accounting software, and assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts, while maintaining accurate financial records across several entities.
This role requires someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-company environment, managing several sets of financial records simultaneously while ensuring compliance and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
The Accounts Assistant will support the finance team with a broad range of accounting and administrative tasks including:
Bookkeeping & Financial Records
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for multiple companies.
- Record and reconcile sales and purchase invoices.
- Process bank transactions and bank reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial records are up to date.
Accounting & Reporting
- Assist in preparing trial balances.
- Support the preparation of management accounts.
- Assist in producing monthly financial reports.
- Help prepare year-end accounts for submission to accountants or auditors.
- Assist with financial forecasting and budgeting where required.
Sage Accounting System
- Use Sage accounting software for daily financial management.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure transactions are coded correctly.
- Produce reports from Sage to support management decisions.
Reconciliation & Compliance
- Perform bank, supplier, and customer reconciliations.
- Assist with VAT returns and submissions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Maintain accurate financial documentation for audit purposes.
Payroll & Expenses
- Assist with payroll preparation and reconciliation.
- Process and reconcile staff expenses.
- Ensure correct allocation of costs across companies.
Multi-Company Accounting
- Maintain financial records across multiple companies within the group.
- Ensure accurate intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
- Track financial activity separately for each entity.
Administrative Support
- Organise financial documentation and maintain digital records.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and financial advisors.
- Support the finance team with ad-hoc accounting and reporting tasks.
RequirementsSkills & Experience Required
- Previous experience as an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, or Bookkeeper.
- Experience working with multiple companies, multi currency or entities simultaneously.
- Strong working knowledge of Sage accounting software or other similar accounting software.
- Experience with bookkeeping and trial balances.
- Experience assisting with year-end accounts preparation.
- Good understanding of VAT, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- AAT qualification (or studying towards AAT / ACCA / CIMA).
- Experience working in a group company structure.
- Experience with multi-currency accounting.
