Job Summary
Seeking a skilled and motivated Commercial Lines Underwriter to join a team. In this role, you will evaluate and determine the acceptability of new applications, renewals, and endorsements for commercial lines of insurance. You will play a critical role in assessing risks, ensuring compliance with company underwriting standards, and fostering strong relationships with agents.
Compensation Package
- Salary: $90,000 - $95,000 annually

Responsibilities
- Evaluate new applications, renewals, and endorsement requests for commercial lines of insurance, including commercial fire, general liability, workers’ compensation, fleet auto, and business owners’ policies.
- Assess risks and determine insurability based on property/operations characteristics, physical and moral hazards, and other relevant factors.
- Recommend risk improvements and select appropriate policies while determining pricing using individual risk and experience premium modification factors.
- Secure facultative reinsurance for applicable risks in alignment with company guidelines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of commercial insurance underwriting practices, state/local statutes, and laws.
- Provide education and training to agents by presenting technical and corporate information on commercial insurance issues.
- Collaborate with marketing and claims personnel to review agency performance and foster improved agency relationships.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including state regulators, reinsurers, agents, and co-workers.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial lines products and coverages.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Supplemental insurance education/designations are a plus.
- Experience with independent agency distribution and knowledge of agency relationships in the servicing area.
- Familiarity with target industries such as contracting, auto service/repair, restaurants, and small businesses/BOP is advantageous.
