Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

InsuraMatch is a national independent agency, owned by Travelers Insurance, that has launched a new business division focusing on commercial lines business with an Excess and Surplus lines focus. The new venture has become a key strategy for the agency as it seeks to diversify its business operations and help advance key strategic objectives of Travelers. As a Wholesale/E&S Commercial Lines Underwriter you will be primarily responsible for working with appointed Travelers Retail Agents to evaluate individual commercial lines risk applications for underwriting acceptability and pricing determinations. You will also manage portfolio profitability while working with Retail Agents to provide new and renewal products based on their client needs.
What Will You Do?
- Underwriters play a key role in managing the overall risk portfolio and profitability of the Wholesaler's business through rigorous evaluation of individual risk and pricing elements of all new, renewal and endorsement business submissions.
- Evaluate new and renewal submissions from Retail Agents to determine underwriting and pricing attributes permitted within the parameters of company guidelines and industry best practices.
- Develop comprehensive understanding of state by state underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate individual submissions for completeness and request additional documentation necessary for the evaluation and processing of an application, endorsement or cancellation.
- Apply appropriate terms and conditions and document underwriting and pricing decision rationale.
- Engage with agents to close individual transactions.
- Coach and guide others as needed.
- Form a holistic view of each account and its risk and profitability prospects by marrying publicly available data sources with submitted documentation to properly evaluate risk, make pricing considerations, and apply underwriting judgment.
- Prepare premium quotations for new and renewal business risk submissions.
- Promptly address inquiries from agents, policyholder, or prospects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- 5 plus years of Commercial Line Underwriting Experience
- Insurance Industry designations
What is a Must Have?
- 2 years of Insurance, Underwriting, MGA or program business experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of Commercial Lines insurance coverage forms and their application
- Working knowledge of applicable Insurance Department regulations and policies
- Must have a valid Producer's License in home state
