Our client continues to expand their E&S footprint and is seeking to add a Senior Commercial Casualty Underwriter to join their team. This position will focus on the underwriting of primary casualty risks exclusively through wholesale agents and brokers. This role will require a strategic approach to risk selection, pricing, and portfolio management. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the excess & surplus (E&S) market, excellent relationship-building skills with wholesale partners, and a demonstrated ability to drive profitable growth.
  • Underwrite and price new and renewal business in accordance with company underwriting guidelines for Primary Casualty risks.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale agents and brokers to identify opportunities for new business and retention of existing accounts.
  • Evaluate and assess risk exposures, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers to achieve profitable results and maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Claims, Loss Control, and Actuarial to ensure proper risk management.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and adjust underwriting strategy to maintain profitability and growth objectives.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks that may impact the underwriting strategy.
  • Attend industry events and meetings with wholesale agents and brokers to promote the company’s products and build relationships.
 
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of Commercial General Liability underwriting experience in Primary Casualty.
  • Understanding of the E&S market and the unique needs of wholesale distribution channels, strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage broker relationships.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in assessing risks, developing pricing strategies, and ensuring portfolio profitability.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Risk Management, Business, etc.); CPCU, AU, or other insurance designations are preferred.
