Job Summary Overview
The Indirect Lending Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and decisioning indirect loan applications received through our dealer partners and strategic lending partners. This role evaluates credit risk, verifies borrower capacity and collateral quality, and exercises delegated lending authority to approve, counteroffer, or decline loan requests while balancing member experience, loan growth, and portfolio performance. The Indirect Lending Underwriter works closely with dealer partners, strategic lending partners, lending operations, funding, and management to ensure timely loan decisions, adherence to policy, and achievement of organizational growth objectives.

Position Required Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience with consumer loan underwriting with one (1) year of experience in indirect lending underwriting. Experience with auto loan underwriting and indirect dealer lending programs preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidate should be capable of underwriting auto loans, understand credit risk and auto loan profitability. Candidate need to be qualified to do so to explain credit decisions to dealers in a confident and professional manner either over the phone or through messaging. Proficiency with computer programs including the full suite of Microsoft Office products and other standard office software. Ability to develop ad hoc reports. Ability to read, write, speak, and use proper grammar in English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, financial reports, legal documents, and government regulations. Proven ability to write business correspondence and write reports. Proven ability to write business correspondence in response to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to communicate verbally both in person and on the telephone. Ability to speak effectively to members and dealers regarding sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
