Manager II, Software Engineering, Infrastructure
SamsaraWho we are
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.
Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role:
Samsara is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Core Infrastructure team. This team builds and operates the foundational compute, networking, storage, and cloud systems behind Samsara’s products. Core Infrastructure is central to the availability, scalability, security, and efficiency of our platform.
This role combines technical and people leadership to evolve Samsara’s infrastructure at scale, supporting a platform that processes more than 25 trillion data points annually. You will guide infrastructure strategy and modernization, improve reliability and operational health, and enable product teams to move faster through automation and self-service capabilities.
As a manager, you’ll lead a globally distributed team, develop senior engineers, and create clear ownership across critical infrastructure domains. You’ll work closely with engineering and security leaders across Samsara to build the infrastructure required for the company’s continued growth.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US.
You should apply if:
- You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact – helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
- You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go.
- You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
- You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win – together.
In this role, you will:
- Lead, coach, and develop a globally distributed Core Infrastructure team, raising performance, establishing clear ownership, and creating leverage through senior ICs and technical leads.
- Own technical strategy and translate it into an integrated roadmap across compute, networking, storage, infrastructure control planes, reliability, and cloud efficiency.
- Improve operational health by strengthening capacity management, failure isolation, observability, safe rollouts, incident learning, and sustainable on-call practices.
- Build paved paths, automation, and self-service infrastructure that help engineering teams move faster, safely, and reliably.
- Apply AI-enabled tools and workflows thoughtfully to improve engineering execution, operational analysis, and toil reduction.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
- Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team

- 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including 2+ years directly managing software or infrastructure engineers.
- Experience leading, developing, and raising the performance of an established engineering team.
- A strong technical background in production infrastructure, cloud platforms, or distributed systems at scale.
- A track record of leading complex technical initiatives and translating strategy into measurable results.
- Strong communication, technical judgment, and the ability to create alignment across teams.
An ideal candidate also has:
- Experience leading infrastructure for a large-scale cloud or distributed platform.

- Led major modernization, reliability, disaster-recovery, or cloud-efficiency initiatives.
- Experience leading globally distributed teams.
- Practical experience using AI-enabled tools to improve engineering effectiveness.
