Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Expert, Part-Time AI Eval - Remote (United States)
OpenTrain AI• $85–$185 per hour
• 100% remote
• Part-time
• Fully flexible schedule
Create and review challenging engineering problems that test AI systems against real manufacturing constraints, on your own schedule.
AI companies need manufacturing and industrial engineers to create demanding technical problems grounded in real engineering work. You'll build problems with realistic constraints and supporting data, then write correct solutions that another engineer can check. You'll also set clear standards for assessing solutions and review other contributors' problems for accuracy, sound methods and ambiguity. This is that work, done remotely around your schedule.
What you'll do
• Create challenging problems in areas such as manufacturing process design or production systems, using realistic constraints and supporting data
• Write correct solutions and explain the reasoning so another engineer can verify your analysis
• Set objective review criteria that separate technically sound solutions from answers that look convincing but are wrong
• Check whether other contributors' problems are technically accurate and use sound methods, and flag ambiguity or anything that cannot be assessed reliably
Why this is worth your time
• Get paid $85–$185 an hour
• Use your engineering judgment to build realistic problems and check the technical reasoning behind their solutions
• Fit part-time work around your current role on a flexible schedule
• Fully remote and flexible, no fixed shifts, no commute
Who this is for
• A master's degree or a PhD covering manufacturing, industrial or mechanical engineering; a closely related field also qualifies
• Principal, staff, or fellow-level experience gained within a major manufacturing organization; alternatively, an appointment to the faculty of a leading university
• You have owned engineering work hands-on and bring deep expertise in a relevant subdomain (at least one); strong technical communication, professional fluency in English, and sound judgment in interpreting constraints are also required
No AI experience needed. Experience with AI or large language model evaluation is helpful, not required.
Pay and details
• $85–$185 per hour, paid hourly as an independent contractor
• Part-time, flexible schedule; fully remote, United States
