Position: Mortgage Loan Underwriter III
Department: Mortgages
Reports To: Mortgage Loan Underwriter Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt Grade: 13
SUMMARY:
The Mortgage Underwriter III position requires a minimum of 4 years of current mortgage underwriting experience to include 2 years of government underwriting. Must be DE and SAR approved.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Validate the accuracy of all calculations and loan documentation provided.
- Responsible for underwriting all mortgage loan types including all government loans
- Completes a thorough analysis of loan files to determine guideline compliance with Keesler Federal, GSE agency, and investor guidelines.
- Analyze Credit, Capacity, Capital, Collateral, and Character to ensure the file meets guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains service levels to provide established turn times.
- Provides general guidance to Loan Processors and Loan Originators for loan file.
- Assists in internal quality control, audit review issues, and responds to audit findings.
- Stays updated on PMI, GSE, and Portfolio Loan Products.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Mortgage policies and guidelines.
- Responsible for compliance with all Federal Mortgage regulations.
- Proficient in all mortgage department systems related to underwriting.
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Maintains knowledge of and adheres to Keesler Federal internal compliance policies and procedures.
- Addresses loan issues in a timely manner to ensure an extraordinary member experience resulting in no disruption to closing date established at time of origination.

- Mentor Mortgage Loan Underwriters I and II with loan decision-making.
- Responsible for compliance with all Federal regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Ability to Repay/Qualified Mortgage Rule and TRID.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position preferred.
Experience and Other Requirements:
- Direct Endorsement Certification and SAR approval required.
- Minimum of 4 years of current mortgage underwriting experience required.
- 2 years of government underwriting experience Required.
- Advanced underwriting, advanced tax return analysis, advanced collateral assessment (appraisal analysis).
- Expert knowledge with FHA Connection, FHA EAD, VA WEB LGY, USDA GUS, DU, and LPA.
- Advanced ability to analyze complex income, assets, credit and collateral.
- Advanced problem solving, analytical and resolution skills.
Computer Skills:

Proficient in the use of computers and standard office technology, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams).
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

FHA Direct Endorsement Certification and VA SAR approval.
