5 or more hours a week, you choose when

Work flexibly on part-time theoretical physics projects that turn statistical-mechanics and quantum-code problems into checked solutions for AI training and evaluation.

AI systems learn from worked examples, expert answers and careful ratings. Teams building research-grade models need physicists who can solve, audit and adjudicate hard theoretical problems, and say clearly where a solution goes wrong. Your evaluations help improve the accuracy and reasoning of scientific AI answers. This is remote, part-time contractor work applying your statistical-physics expertise to AI evaluation.

What you'll do

• Work through problems on the Nishimori line, toric-code thresholds, and replicated random-bond Ising and Ashkin-Teller models

• Write documented solutions or critiques using square-lattice self-duality, Kramers-Wannier duality, quenched disorder averaging and domain-wall free energy

• Run 4-state Potts model simulations, interpret the results, and look into noncontractible loop defects and other topological features

• Take the Solver, Auditor or Adjudicator role on assigned projects

Why this is worth your time

• Earn $100–$200 an hour solving and reviewing theoretical physics problems from your own subfield

• Work on problems taken from statistical physics, topological quantum codes and condensed matter theory

• Apply your research judgment to check whether AI-generated physics solutions are correct and well supported

• Fully remote and flexible, no fixed shifts, no commute

Who this is for

• A physics PhD or equivalent experience, with a specialty in statistical physics, quantum information or condensed matter theory

• Hands-on experience with square-lattice self-duality, Kramers-Wannier duality and quenched disorder averaging

• Numerical simulation and analysis work on domain-wall free energy and the 4-state Potts model

• Knowledge of topological quantum codes, above all the toric code and its threshold behavior

• Fluent in English

• Helpful: Python, SymPy, Jupyter, and LaTeX, plus a strong record of 3 to 5 relevant papers published in the last 5 years

• No AI experience needed. You bring the physics expertise; your judgment helps evaluate and improve AI-generated physics solutions.

Pay and details

• $100–$200 per hour, paid hourly as an independent contractor

• Part-time, flexible schedule; fully remote, United States
