A Day in the Life

This is a unique opportunity to build and expand Medtronic’s go-to-market model through leading our remote sales team focused on our Medical Surgical Portfolio across the Acute, Ambulatory Surgical Center, and Alternative sites of care.

The Senior Director of Remote Sales will lead and drive the remote sales strategy and execution for the Medical Surgical portfolio, ensuring achievement of revenue targets, expansion of market share, and delivery of best-in-class customer experience. This leader will oversee high-performing remote sales teams, collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, clinical, and field sales teams, and champion the adoption of innovative digital sales methodologies to maximize impact across diverse healthcare customers.

This role will require 25% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the overall remote sales strategy for the Medical Surgical portfolio, aligned with organizational goals and market dynamics.

  • Set ambitious revenue targets, forecast sales trends, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure consistent growth and profitability.

  • Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities, customer segments, and emerging markets through remote engagement.

  • Have experience and comfortability in driving change of traditional go to market strategies to accelerate sales and improve the customer cost to serve

Team Management & Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of remote sales managers, representatives to achieve and exceed sales objectives.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-centricity.

  • Implement best practices in remote sales management, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee the adoption and optimization of digital sales tools (e.g., CRM, sales engagement campaigns, virtual meeting platforms, analytics dashboards) to drive efficiency and customer engagement.

  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to design and deliver impactful digital engagement campaigns, product launches, and educational webinars.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and ethical standards in all remote sales activities.

Customer Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key healthcare stakeholders, including hospital administrators, surgeons, procurement teams, and clinical staff.

  • Gather and relay customer feedback to inform product development and service enhancements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with business unit marketing and field sales, channel marketing, commercial technology, and customer service teams to drive aligned priorities, messaging, execution, and ensure seamless customer experiences.

  • Partner with analytics and business intelligence teams to analyze data, identify trends, and generate actionable insights.

  • Partner with finance to forecast performance and identify opportunities for expansion to deliver more effective and efficient growth.

Basic Qualifications – Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 15+ years of business to business sales experience (13+ with a graduate degree)

  • 10+ years of managerial experience

Preferred Qualifications – Nice to Have

  • Medical device sales highly preferred

  • Proven track record of exceeding sales targets and leading large, distributed teams.

  • Deep understanding of the medical surgical market, including customer needs, competitive landscape, and regulatory environment.

  • Strong digital acumen and experience leveraging virtual selling platforms and CRM systems.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 25%).

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):185,000 - 185,000

 

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

In addition to Base Salary, this position is eligible for a Sales Incentive Plan (SIP), which provides the opportunity to earn significant incentive compensation for achieving or exceeding your goals.

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
