Our client is seeking to add a Senior E&S Production Underwriter to their growing Specialty Division. The E&S Production Underwriter will be responsible for driving profitable growth within the Excess & Surplus portfolio, with a primary focus on Cannabis and Property risks. This role will focus on building and managing strong wholesale broker relationships, underwriting complex and non-admitted risks, and developing strategic initiatives to expand market presence. The Underwriter will work closely with underwriting leadership, claims, actuarial, and executive teams to ensure disciplined underwriting practices and achievement of production and profitability goals. This is a fully remote position with limited travel expectations for broker meetings and industry events.
Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and grow a profitable book of E&S Cannabis and Property business.
Underwrite new and renewal submissions, including evaluation of risk exposure, pricing, coverage structure, and terms and conditions.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to drive consistent submission flow.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with brokers to ensure profitability and competitiveness.
Apply underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and company appetite to risk selection decisions.
Monitor portfolio performance, rate adequacy, and loss trends to ensure sustained profitability.
Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and risk management teams to analyze loss activity and improve underwriting strategy.
Assist in developing underwriting guidelines and coverage enhancements specific to Cannabis and Property risks.
Maintain compliance with E&S regulatory requirements and surplus lines regulations.
Travel to broker offices and industry events to strengthen partnerships and increase brand visibility.
Provide market intelligence and feedback to leadership regarding industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging exposures.
Maintain accurate documentation and file management within underwriting systems.
Requirements
5+ years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience, with E&S experience being a plus.
