Introduction

We are seeking a Computational Biologist to construct structured benchmarks that evaluate how AI models handle complex spatial data workflows. In this role, you will assess whether automated systems display genuine analytical reasoning across multi-step research pipelines, evaluating their capacity to make sound methodological choices beyond routine script execution.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design Spatial Benchmarks: Build multi-stage evaluation tasks grounded in peer-reviewed literature to test AI performance across spatial biology workflows.

  • Evaluate Decision Reasoning: Determine whether AI models grasp the underlying rationale behind multi-step analyses rather than relying on automated execution.

  • Analyze Error Cascades: Measure how early-stage processing choices propagate downstream to impact scientific conclusions and overall results.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Spatial Workflow Architecture: Deep understanding of how early image processing (e.g., registration and background noise reduction) impacts downstream segmentation quality, and how spatial resolution dictates appropriate deconvolution strategies.

  • Methodological Judgment: Strong grasp of technical trade-offs across different spatial platforms (e.g., spot-based vs. single-cell in situ technologies), knowing when to deconvolve versus segment, and how tissue architecture limits analytical options.

  • Tool & Pipeline Adaptability: Ability to quickly integrate and utilize standard bioinformatic libraries for spatial analysis, image processing, and single-cell transcriptomics.

  • Benchmark Engineering: Proven experience constructing multi-checkpoint evaluation tasks where AI models must navigate registration errors, defend threshold choices, and handle biological trade-offs in variable tissue samples.
