Role Overview

ProAg is looking for an Associate Underwriter or Underwriter to join our Eastern Underwriting team who is innovative, builds strong relationships, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This position is responsible for reviewing annual policy documents to ensure adherence to federal and company guidelines. Our underwriting staff builds meaningful, long-lasting relationships with agents and serves as a subject matter expert for internal and external customers.

In this Exciting Opportunity, You Will:

  • Review policy information for crop insurance coverage, proper rating, and other information to determine if application is acceptable for the available program or selected coverage.
  • Contact and respond to verbal and written inquiries from brokers within designated timeframe to provide appropriate information and serve as an underwriting resource.
  • Verify rates of policies or check previously rated policies for proper rating using the tools available such as the Risk Management Agency (RMA) and ProAg quoting applications.
  • Utilize knowledge of automated underwriting and/or processing systems to develop information for new or renewal policies.
  • Prepare quotations for agents and answer questions from agents, policyholder, or prospects.
  • Adhere to all company underwriting authority directives, underwriting guidelines, and other applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Request additional documentation necessary for the processing of an application, endorsement, or cancellation.
  • Approve or deny within given authority or recommend approval or denial to higher authority.
  • Review requests for cancellation, endorsements, etc.
  • Analyze and research detailed policy information related to Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) error resolution and resolve any uncleared items.
  • Read and interpret FCIC documents.
  • Analyze and revise acreage reports.
  • Respond to common inquiries from RMA and RSOs.
  • Ensure compliance with organization policies and government regulations including all deadlines associated with sales closing dates (SCDs), acreage reporting dates (ARDs), production reporting dates (PRDs), accounting cutoffs, and fund designations.
  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, and to remain abreast of industry trends.
  • Serve as a resource to other departmental staff with regard to underwriting procedures and other departmental guidelines.
  • Develop understanding of various factors that affect and influence policy rating and risk.
  • Assist with data entry as needed.
  • Attend required training sessions.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of two years of relevant and progressive professional experience.
  • Previous agriculture or crop insurance industry experience preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Pay Transparency

The pay range for this position is $49,500 - $80,000, which includes geographic adjustments, where applicable. The pay range is the range THMCC, in good faith, believes is the range of compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
