Introduction

The Role – Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations Technical Lead

The Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations Technical Lead is a senior, hands-on development role responsible for the technical architecture, solution design, and engineering quality of the Dynamics FnO platform.

This position blends deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will remain actively involved in development while guiding and mentoring a broader engineering team. Working closely with the System Owner, Software Delivery Manager, architects, and Finance stakeholders, the role ensures that business requirements are translated into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions.

This role is critical in maintaining a stable, secure, and high-performing platform that supports global Finance operations, particularly during key financial cycles such as month-end and year-end.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Architecture & Solution Design

  • Own and evolve the technical architecture for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and associated integrations
  • Design scalable, maintainable solutions aligned to enterprise architecture, security, and data standards
  • Produce detailed technical designs and specifications for complex or high-risk changes
  • Review and approve designs for customisations, extensions, and integrations
  • Promote best practices within the Dynamics 365 extension model and actively reduce technical debt

2. Hands-On Development & Engineering Leadership

  • Develop and deliver solutions using X++, extensions, data entities, batch framework, and integrations
  • Take ownership of complex development tasks, critical fixes, and performance-sensitive components
  • Lead by example through high-quality, well-tested, and performant code
  • Establish and enforce standards for code quality, testing, performance, and documentation
  • Lead and participate in design and code reviews
  • Mentor and support developers through coaching, pairing, and technical guidance

3. Integrations & Platform Engineering

  • Design, build, and support integrations with systems such as banking platforms, tax engines, revenue systems, reporting tools, and Power Platform solutions
  • Implement Azure-based integration patterns using Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus, APIs, and messaging services
  • Contribute to environment strategy, CI/CD pipelines, build processes, and release automation
  • Ensure integrations are secure, reliable, and operationally sustainable

4. SDLC, Release & Operational Support

  • Collaborate with the Software Delivery Manager to support end-to-end SDLC delivery
  • Ensure technical readiness for releases, especially during critical Finance periods
  • Support production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes
  • Assist with environment management, deployments, and release validation

5. Security, Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure solutions comply with security standards, audit requirements, and data protection policies
  • Support segregation of duties, access controls, and audit evidence requirements
  • Work with Audit, Security, and Risk teams to address findings and strengthen platform controls

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations or Dynamics AX
  • Strong expertise in X++, extensions, data entities, batch framework, and performance optimisation
  • Proven experience delivering complex customisations and integrations within live ERP environments
  • Strong experience with Azure technologies, including Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical delivery while remaining hands-on
  • Solid understanding of Finance processes and ERP control frameworks

Preferred

  • Experience in global, multi-entity, and multi-currency environments
  • Exposure to Power Platform, Power BI, or automation technologies
  • Experience supporting Finance shared services or large-scale Finance transformation programmes

Package & Remuneration

R1m-R1.7m pa Depending on experience
