Introduction

Reporting to the Chief Strategy and Governance Officer, the Legal and Compliance Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening the company's global compliance, governance, and risk frameworks. Based in South Africa, you’ll collaborate across countries and teams to ensure that regulatory compliance, governance standards, and risk management practices are aligned and effective throughout the organization.

This is both a strategic and operational role — ideal for someone with deep technical knowledge and experience in legal and compliance, looking to work across different areas in the business with a wide range of stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Support
    • Provide legal support across the organisation, working closely with the CSGO and other executives
    • Together with the CSGO and other executives, coordinate and instruct external counsel as and when necessary
    • Serve as the first line reviewer of legal and compliance related documents
    • Draft legal agreements (with support from external counsel as and when needed)

 

  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with charitable fundraising, financial reporting, relevant financial services regulation, and other applicable regulatory requirements across affiliated entities in Switzerland, the UK, and the USA
    • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance frameworks, controls, and monitoring activities that support a fast-growing, technology-enabled business strategically incorporated as a non-profit
    • Develop a policy framework and associated policies to further ensure regulatory compliance

 

  • Data Protection & Privacy Governance
    • Lead data protection and privacy governance to ensure compliance with applicable laws including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data protection legislation;
    • Promote best practices in data handling, information security, and privacy-by-design across all business functions, working closely with product, engineering, and operations teams;
    • Support the DPO with incoming data related enquiries

  • Risk Management Framework
    • Develop and maintain a risk management framework to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, regulatory, and reputational risks across the organization
    • Provide clear, practical guidance and reporting on key risks and controls to leadership and relevant governance bodies
    • Support in the development of a centralised risk register, for review and management by the respective boards across the organisation

  • Governance & Oversight
    • Support the CSGO with board governance and oversight, including the design and maintenance of core governance documents, frameworks, and charters

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • 5+ years of experience in legal and compliance related roles, with a deep understanding of governance and risk management
  • Experience or interest in working in the technology sector, with an understanding of digital platforms, fintech or other fast-growing, innovation-driven fields
  • The ability to manage cross-border or multi-entity compliance frameworks
  • Comfortable with a hands-on approach, and able to move from developing frameworks and policies to working directly with teams to implement, refine, and operationalise those frameworks
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Analytical thinker with attention to detail and sound judgment
