Introduction

Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex data engineering and platform implementation initiatives across both client and internal programmes.

This is a delivery-focused role, responsible for ensuring that data platforms, pipelines, integrations, and analytics foundations are delivered predictably, securely, and to a high standard. The successful candidate will work closely with Data Engineering, Architecture, Platform, Analytics, and Consulting teams to manage execution, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of data engineering and platform implementation projects from initiation through to handover.
  • Define scope, milestones, delivery plans, dependencies, and success criteria.
  • Manage delivery across time, cost, scope, and quality constraints.
  • Ensure implementation aligns with agreed technical designs and architectural standards.

Technical Delivery Oversight

  • Work closely with Data Engineers, Architects, and Platform teams to understand technical complexity.
  • Translate technical designs into structured, executable delivery plans.
  • Manage dependencies across data ingestion, transformation, storage, and analytics layers.
  • Ensure non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, security, and reliability are delivered.

Stakeholder & Client Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for delivery stakeholders.
  • Manage client expectations around timelines, scope, and risks.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and key decisions clearly.
  • Facilitate governance forums, status updates, and steering committees.

Risk & Delivery Management

  • Identify and manage delivery, technical, and data-related risks.
  • Maintain RAID logs and ensure appropriate mitigation and escalation.
  • Manage cross-team and third-party dependencies.
  • Balance trade-offs between delivery speed, cost, and technical quality.

Delivery Practices & Commercial Oversight

  • Support Agile, hybrid, or phased delivery models.
  • Facilitate delivery ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives).
  • Track budgets, forecasts, and delivery burn.
  • Manage scope changes through structured change control processes.
  • Ensure documentation, handover, and operational readiness.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • 10–15 years’ experience across technical data roles and project/delivery management
  • Proven experience delivering complex technical or data platform implementations within consulting or professional services environments
  • Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid delivery methodologies
  • Experience managing multi-stream technical projects with cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of data engineering environments, including data pipelines, cloud data platforms, and integrations/APIs
  • Ability to engage confidently with engineers and architects (technical fluency required, not hands-on)
  • Excellent stakeholder and client management skills, with the ability to influence at senior level
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Advantageous:

  • Background in data engineering, software engineering, or technical delivery
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD, or data platform operations
  • Experience delivering analytics, BI, or AI-driven platforms
  • Relevant project or delivery certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum Master)
